Canada prides itself as a global leader in social progress. In 2005, the nation legalized same-sex marriage across its territories, with most provinces recognizing such marriages since 2003. Since then, Canadian Immigration and Citizenship CIC has been inclusive of sponsorship for same-sex spouses, common-law partners, conjugal partners, and other relationships.
Types of Same-Sex Partners Eligible for Immigration:
Same-sex Spouses: Couples consisting of individuals who are legally married or in a relationship with each other, regardless of sex.
Common-Law Partners: Individuals living together in an exclusive partnership for at least one year as of the date you file your application.
To qualify under this category:
Joint bank accounts and credit cards
Co-owned properties or rental agreements
Utility bills listed under both names
Household expenses managed jointly
Shared household items purchases
Ml addressed to either person
Qualification criteria for conjugal partners:
A minimum year-long relationship with the intention of marrying soon
Proof showing you couldn't cohabit due to circumstances beyond your control
Co-immigrating as a Same-Sex Couple:
If one partner is eligible through skilled worker programs, they can apply together. This joint application increases chances for acceptance and may also help score additional points based on their skills or education.
