February 20, 2024
Skilled immigrant candidates can now utilize the Canadian Express Entry system to gn permanent residency in Canada. This streamlined program manages skilled immigration applications and evaluates applicants who have a strong potential for successfully integrating into Canadian society and contributing to its economy.
The goal of Express Entry is to process at least 80 percent of skilled immigration applications within six months, with no deadline set for candidates to create their online profiles. There's also no limit on the number of Express Entry applications accepted; however, annual immigration levels determine how many will be selected each year.
Skilled immigrants can apply for permanent residency through the Express Entry system by participating in one of four economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
Canada Experience Class Program
Provincial Nominee Programs Specific Components
Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC has also introduced category-based invitation rounds to complement the other Express Entry draws. These rounds cater to applicants with work experience, language proficiency, or education background fitting into one of the following professional categories:
French-language fluency
Healthcare occupations
Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics STEM professions
Trade sectors
Transportation professions
Agriculture and agri-food industries
Applying for permanent residency via Express Entry comprises two steps:
Step 1: Create an Online Express Entry Profile
Eligible candidates will complete their online Express Entry profiles by providing information about their qualifications, such as:
Work experience
Education
Language skills
Skills
Additional personal detls pertinent to the assessment of their application
Those who meet the criteria for one of the three skilled immigration programs outlined above are admitted into a pool of candidates. Acceptance into this pool does not automatically guarantee an invitation; instead, it deps on factors such as:
Holding a job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment LMIA
Being nominated for permanent residency by a provincial government
Candidates without these may benefit from seeking employment through indepent means or registering with Employment and Social Development Canada’s Job Bank. It is optional but beneficial.
Step 2: Obtn an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency
All candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked agnst each other using the Comprehensive Ranking System CRS, which awards points based on:
Skills
Work experience
Job offer status with LMIA or alternative qualifications
Provincial government nomination
Candidates with the highest CRS scores receive an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residency. After receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit their permanent residency application online.
IRCC promises to process most complete applications with all supporting documents within six months.
After 12 months in the pool without being invited, candidates must create a new Express Entry profile.
