This initiative is a comprehensive, inclusive approach designed to build the environmental workforce in alignment with sectoral needs. Supported by the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program, it alleviate labor shortages, enhance skills development, and position Canada as a global leader in environmental innovation, commercialization, and employment generation.
Objective:
The project will unite key stakeholders to expand, improve, and diversify the pool of individuals engaged in environmental roles. Its core objectives are:
Empower向上 workforce mobility by offering an innovative talent development program that ensures equitable access to career resources, trning, certification, networking opportunities, and job prospects.
Enhance employer capacity through the implementation of best practices for attracting, retning, developing, and diversifying a competent, skilled, productive, and inclusive environmental labor force.
Strengthen workforce alignment by collaborating with industry leaders, professional associations, governments, academia, diversity groups, and other intermediaries to align their programs and policies with talent requirements.
Support the Canadian Battery Supply Chn through these initiatives, including awareness campgns, job creation strategies, HR tools development, and skills trning.
The project was initiated on November 7, 2022, concluding by March 31, 2024, spanning a period of approximately 17 months.
Career Development Strategies:
Key components include:
Environmental Jobs Growth Program: A wage subsidy program offering resources such as participant guides, assessments, diversity incentives, comprehensive support services, and an online portal. Expected outcomes: Placement of 550 individuals across 350 unique employers with at least 420 76 from underrepresented groups.
Workshops and Trning: IDEA workshops to enhance inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in the workplace will be conducted for around 500 employers, including those participating in the wage subsidy program. Additionally, virtual meet-ups, conferences, and career frs are planned to foster professional connections.
Educational Enhancements: Accreditation processes and certification programs improvements are underway. Plans include one-on-one meetings with accreditation partners, recruiting academic reviewers from current partners, adding new programs by December 2023 10 programs and by the of this fiscal year 19 additional programs.
Self-Assessment Tools: A Greening Your Business toolkit will be developed alongside a self-assessment worksheet to help organizations identify their steps towards implementing sustnable business practices.
Trning Opportunities:
To cater to diverse learning needs, trning opportunities are being developed:
Interactive workshops exploring various subjects with on-demand access.
Micro-credential programs focusing on skills that match industry requirements.
An Indigenous Entrepreneurship Trning Pilot designed for 25 participants, equipping them with essential business skills through hands-on and theoretical trning.
Collaborative Efforts:
A workforce strategy session involving leaders from small, medium, and large enterprises will address diversity, education, collaboration, and barrier reduction.
