Immigration Options

Alberta's immigration options are divided between programs managed by the federal government Government of Canada and those governed by the provincial government Government of Alberta. The latter is known as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program AP, which allows the province to nominate individuals who can contribute to its labor market needs or entrepreneurial ventures.

The AP is an economic-based program that bring in candidates capable of meeting Alberta's workforce requirements and assisting in business growth. Changes to eligibility criteria may occur as per the evolving economic landscape of the province.

Each stream within the AP has a non-refundable application fee attached.

Provincial Program – AP

Alberta offers several streams for those who are employed or plan on employment within the province, as well as opportunities for entrepreneurs interested in establishing businesses here. The eligibility requirements vary across each stream.

Stream options for Workers

The AP features several work-based streams:

  1. Alberta Opportunity Stream: This program targets candidates with job offers from eligible employers.

  2. Alberta Express Entry Stream: Designed for those whose skills are in-demand and who have been invited to apply through Canada's Express Entry system.

    • International Qualifications Assessment Service IQAS is a recognized agency for assessing completed educational qualifications agnst Canadian standards.
  2. For candidates applying under the Express Entry system through AP, an Educational Credential Assessment ECA may be required to streamline their assessment process.

  3. Verify educational requirements with your inted institution before undertaking any ECA assessments for purposes of migration or employment.

  4. Hiring a representative or lawyer is not mandatory for immigration processes.

    • Although they can offer guidance and services, they do not expedite ing time of applications.
  5. All necessary information for applying to immigrate to Alberta is free; however, there's an application fee involved. If you choose to use representatives, be aware that Canadian governments might contact you directly about your application regardless.

  6. Use the correct form when applying for any program.

  7. The AP necessitates certified translations.

    • Ensure all documents not in English or French are accompanied by copies of their original versions and undergo a certified translation process using services like the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta ATIA.
